RHSAA Travel Policy Tournament Exhibition Game Rules

 

 

RHSAA Tournament Rule/Travel Policy for 2019-2020

 

Senior Teams:

 

• Can choose to attend a maximum of three tournaments, if not hosting their own

• Can choose to attend a maximum of four tournaments, if hosting one of the four

• Can choose to attend a maximum of one tournament more than 500 km from Regina

• Can choose to attend a maximum of one tournament less than 500 km from Regina

 

Junior Teams:

 

• Can choose to attend a maximum of three tournaments, if not hosting their own

• Can choose to attend a maximum of four tournaments, if hosting one of the four

• Can choose to attend a maximum of one tournament less than 500 km from Regina 

 

Exhibition Game Policy:

 

• Each RHSAA high school volleyball, soccer and basketball team (Junior or Senior) can choose to play one exhibition match (either at home or on the road) against Greenall or Lumsden or Notre Dame (non-varsity).  

                                                   

• If more than one match or game is played in a particular sport, it will constitute a tournament and count as an out-of-city tournament. 

 

• Schools are responsible for scheduling the exhibition games (including booking facilities and finding suitable officials), but must e-mail all this information to the RHSAA Commissioner before the game.

 

• All RHSAA schools must complete any tournament and travel forms required by School Board policies.

 

Please Note: 

 

• This new policy will be a one-year trial pilot (2019-2020) and will be revisited by the RHSAA Executive in early spring 2020.

Travel Policy

 

            The RHSAA, Regina Public School Board, Regina Catholic School Board, and Luther College High School recognize the educational value of extracurricular athletics and provincial competition. In order to plan and facilitate provincial travel, the following policy shall govern provincial travel and competition. The participating aforementioned boards agree to support those activities governed/approved by the SHSAA.

            The SHSAA organizes interschool competition in the following activities for the genders designated below.

“C” – Classified – Teams advance through three levels of competition (Conference, Regional, and Provincial).

“NC” – Non Classified – Teams advance through two levels of competition (District and Provincial).

 

Travel

  • Parent permission/information form provided by the RHSAA .
  • All travel shall be arranged by the RHSAA office in the form of a bus or van.
  • Use of private vehicles is discouraged. In the event that private vehicles are used, they must be driven by approved school personnel.  Travel with a private vehicle is ($0.35/KM).
  • Departure times shall be determined in consultation with the RHSAA, coaches, and administration. 
  • Athletes are expected to travel with arranged travel or with their own parents only.

 

Supervision

  • It is expected that teams are supervised by at least one school staff member.  Suggested athlete/supervisor ratio is 20-1.
  • There shall be approved female supervision for female athletes and approved male supervision for male athletes.
  • In the event that a travelling team consists of athletes from more than one school board, there should be at least one supervisor from each represented board.
  • If there is no supervisor from the represented board, written permission is required from parents to authorize supervision (SHSAA non-faculty declaration form).

 

Accommodation

  • To insure accommodation the RHSAA will book hotel rooms once the host site has been determined.
  • Schools are NOT to book accommodation on their own.
  • The RHSAA and subsequent boards are responsible for room and taxes only for team personnel.
  • Room occupancy is four (4) athletes per room. Two same sex coaches/supervisors per room (One per bed).
  • If athletes are staying with their parents the RHSAA and participating boards are not responsible for cost of accommodation.

  • Once a team qualifies for provincial play downs, the RHSAA office will ask for rooming lists to be filled out in the digital format provided by the RHSAA office.
  • Not all provincial competitions require accommodation. Travel distance and availability of hotel rooms may determine whether there is a need for accommodation.
  • The RHSAA requires a copy of the invoice for accommodation and subsequently asks that a copy be returned to the office by one of the coaches.

 

Cost Reimbursement

  • The RHSAA and participating boards do not wish coaches/supervisors to incur food and gas expenses. The RHSAA will reimburse coaches and supervisors for the cost incurred with the submission of receipts. Receipts are to be submitted to the RHSAA office within three weeks of the event.  Maximum daily allowance is breakfast ($11), Lunch ($11) and Supper ($18). As with any school related event coaches are expected not to indulge in alcohol at any time during the trip.
