RHSAA Gerry Thompson Football Award

The Gerry Thompson Football Award will be awarded annually to one individual from a member RHSAA school.  The award is in honor of Gerry Thompson, a former teacher, coach, RIFL President, and SHSAA Executive member, who retired from teaching at Thom Collegiate on March 28, 2006.  The award will consist of a plaque and a letter of congratulations from RHSAA.

CRITERIA

1.   Applicants must be graduating RIFL/RHSAA, football players.

2.   Applicants must be eligible as determined by the RHSAA Constitution and Bylaws.

3.   Applicants must be exceptional citizens within their respective schools in the areas of academic standing, attendance, and student behavior.

4.   Applicants must have participated and excelled in the RIFL football league.

5.   Applicants must have participated in at least one other RHSAA sanctioned sport in each grade ten and eleven with the intention of participating in one other sport in their grade twelve year.

6.   Applicants must have demonstrated:

  • The recognition of placing the football team before individual recognition.
  • An appreciation and respect for other people before, during, and after a competition.
  • Sportsmanship
  • Passion, leadership, and excellence on the football field.
